Whether you’re in your early twenties or thirties, it’s important that you take your skin care seriously. Aging may not be on your radar just yet, but the truth is that our skin starts to age a lot sooner than many of us realise.
According to new research, many of us start aging from as early as our mid-twenties. Of course, how quickly we age will depend on various factors, some of which are genetic, while others are down to lifestyle choices. Many people don’t realise it, but what you eat, how much alcohol you drink and whether you smoke, all affect how quickly your skin ages.
To help you keep your skin looking good for as long as possible, I have put together a few useful tips to take note of. For everything that you need to know about holding onto your youthful complexion for as long as possible, keep reading.
Cleanse every night
Don’t cleanse your face every night? Shame on you – if you want to keep your skin looking young for longer, you need to start cleansing every night. You might think that your makeup, skin oils and toxins from the outside world only cause breakouts, but that’s not the case.
If you don’t clean your face each day, damaging toxins and oils can become trapped and cause damage that will lead to premature wrinkles. Look for a cleanser that will gently remove your makeup without drying out the skin. This should ideally be a product that is as natural as possible, and free of damaging chemicals.
For nights when you’re just too tired to cleanse properly, keep a pack of face wipes by your bed. They might not clean as well as a cleanser, but they’ll remove all the nastiness from your face.
Hydrate your skin
The worst thing that you can do to your skin is let it dry out, as this will speed up the aging process. If you want to keep your face looking youthful for as long as possible, it’s crucial that you moisturise. Giving your skin regular shots of hydration helps to prevent wrinkles from forming, and keeps the cells in the lower layers of the skin healthy.
Be choosy about the moisturiser that you use, pick something that contains anti-aging substances. For early aging prevention, products containing collagen and elastin are ideal. Anti-aging serums can also be amazing for preventing wrinkles from occurring and filling in fine lines. Exfoliate once or twice a week
How often you need to exfoliate will depend on your skin type. If you have dry skin, you’ll need to exfoliate more often, such as two to three times a week. If, however, your skin is not prone to drying out, exfoliating once a week should be fine.
Whatever your skin type, make sure to pick a gentle exfoliator that’s as natural as possible. Products containing harsh chemicals can cause irritation, and can lead to premature aging. Of course, dry skin is not the only reason to regularly exfoliate. If you want to prevent wrinkles from occurring and keep your skin looking healthy, regular exfoliation to remove dead skin cells is a must.
So there you have it, all my top tips for beautiful, youthful skin.
